Sunlight climbs up...

Sunlight climbs up the tulsi chawra
Shadows dark pencil shades
The cock crows irritably in the late morning

My wife's grandfather takes in the sun
His 80 year old wrinkles yellow and warm
Waiting for nothing in particular

My father-in-law sits on the verandah
Cantankerous loud angry-voiced fighting
The world in his high-BP harmless high

In the morning the village fills slowly
With old people who have stopped aging
And the very young who're growing up fast

The pigeons sitting on the thatches make love-sounds
In the golden sunlight of my childhood dreams
Which jump out of my head playful kittens
