A Bit of Kargil
It’s a chill misty early Delhi morning
The walkers keep abed
A cur wanders, perhaps to keep warm.
The colony lies huddled
Under thick quilts, rugs and assorted pullovers
The wide empty gates sound alarms for me:
Open, they are dreadful
Closed – more frightful
No knowing what may happen inside.
The lone man on watch cuddles a cur
Loneliness is hell:
Kargil could be in the mind too!
